SPRING IS BUZZING. We have a lot of momentum (and many new subscribers)! Vessel has matured—and later this spring, we will be transitioning into a new rhythm.
All subscribers will now receive THE MONTHLY, curated content that we’ve published in a recent print edition or that we’ve produced exclusively for Substack. Articles will center around creativity, culture, style, and travel, and also will include a smattering of creative essays and poetry from a range of writers and voices.
Every Friday, paying subscribers will receive THE WEEKENDER, a newsletter that will share a more personal, casual take on the best of the South, curated by an ever-changing cast of guest editors who bring their unique perspective and experiences.
We’re excited about this special delivery that will present chefs, designers, makers, musicians, writers, and more, answering prompts like—
WHAT’S COOKING :: What will you eat or drink this weekend? (Restaurant reservation you’re excited about? New cocktail you want to try or old standby you love? Recipe you’re planning to cook?)
BOOKMARK :: What are you reading? (What book is on your nightstand? What article have you been constantly sharing with friends? What are you excited to crack open?)
DROP A PIN :: Where will you be this weekend? (Staying home? Describe that. Going somewhere? Give us the details!)
ADD TO CART :: What have you bought and loved lately? (What purchase made you smile or brought delight? Big or small, inexpensive or splurgy.)
Keep your eyes peeled for these missives in the near future!—BK

SOUTHERN ROOTS: A BBQ REUNION brings together a slew of the state’s best chefs and pitmasters who will throw a party this Saturday, April 20th, smack in the middle of Trailblazer Park in spunky Travelers Rest, South Carolina. Add tunes and tasty drinks, and it’ll become a mainstay on your calendar.
The best part of Southern Roots is the cause it supports. Chef Geoff Rhyne founded the event to raise funds for IDefine, a nonprofit research group seeking a cure for the rare genetic disease Kleefstra Syndrome. Think of it as a party for Ella—Rhyne’s young daughter who was diagnosed with Kleefstra Syndrome—and the lives of many others in need of a cure.
Southern Roots: A BBQ Reunion, Trailblazer Park, 235 Trailblazer Dr, Travelers Rest. Sat, April 20, Noon–4pm. General admission, $95. Tickets include all food and beverages, including beer, wine, and cocktails. To purchase, go to southernrootsreunion.com.
